Coast – looks aren’t everything

Coast is what you would expect from the Global group: Crowded, dark, pretentious and full of middle aged business men and women. To my left was a table with two middle aged men taking shots and drinking whiskey with two young Russian blondes. Behind me was a large group of 40 year old women dressed in bustiers with sparkles in their hair which was probably their idea of a girls night out. In fact, I was able to notice so clearly because you could barely squeeze by the gap between the tables. You could hear every word spoken by the groups left and right of you. Of course this was typical of the Global group vibe (e.g. Italian Kitchen or Society) so you were paying for the ambiance and not so much for the food. Continue reading

Meloty Fine Tea – Richmond, BC

Meloty Fine Tea has been around for at least 10 years but they were closed down for renovation for about 2 or so years (not sure what took so long). When I was in elementary school, it used to be a tea house popular among the Chinese housewives of Vancouver. Recently, I went with my mom for mothers day for their Afternoon tea deluxe ($25.00 per person) and was really disappointed. Although they had a large tea selection, I was not impressed. They brought out a tier of scones and other savory snacks (e.g. giant sandwiches, sephard’s pie, miniature pizzas) Continue reading

Top Shanghai: An authentic taste of Shanghai

One of the more popular Shanghainese restaurants among the local Chinese of Vancouver/Richmond, Top Shanghai is usually packed with people and a long wait if you don’t have a dinner reservation. The restaurant is cozy and the atmosphere is brightly lit and lively. I celebrated a birthday here one year with a group of friends and for $25.00 we had so much food that I had dinner for the next two nights! Good prices and portions!

Tao Las Vegas – Happy Endings for all

TAO is my go to dinner spot in Las Vegas when I’m staying in or near the Venetian. It gives me my dose of asian food when i’m away from home and I really enjoy it here! The restaurant entrance is located right beside the club entrance and the ceiling is 2 floors high. There is a giant¬†Buddha¬†that reaches the roof and the bathrooms have a special surprise (look under the mirrors over the sink) haha. Continue reading

The Ritz afternoon tea: World’s best

I believe that you haven’t had afternoon tea until you’ve had it in London at the Ritz. It honestly is the most amazing afternoon tea experience I’ve ever been through. Even the Queen of England would approve. How could I approve of afternoon tea in Canada after coming here? Reservations must be made weeks or even months in advance and it is pricey but worth a try. They even have a special Birthday afternoon tea menu that comes with champagne and a birthday cake! Continue reading
